Crown Cork is the world leader in the production of bottles for massive consumption. The company has over 190 plants in 44 countries, of which more than 70 are in Latin American. In fact, one out of every five bottles in the world is manufactured by Crown Cork.
Crown Cork Argentina carries out its quality system and its ISO 9000:2000 certification with LOYAL, managing over 400 documents with this system.
Alejandro Kolyvakis (Quality Manager- Crown Argentina) told us about his experiences, and the benefits and advantages he has obtained with LOYAL since 1999.
The main motives or expectations we had when buying Loyal Software were to simplify the management of documents, the follow-up of reviews and updates and to automatically follow up requests for corrective and/or preventive actions.
Today, we perceive the advantages of using Loyal in terms of productivity, costs, better management of the quality system, etc. If we compare the current scenario with our beginnings in document management (initially totally manual), the task has been significantly simplified, both in administrative management and in the management of the system in general.
This is always subject to the collaboration of other sectors in the company, so that they understand the need to use the software as a follow-up tool that benefits the entire company; occasionally it is difficult to make them understand that this is not just “quality software” but software that is useful for document management in general. In our case, other sectors – such as finance – use it to publish their internal procedures, which are reviewed during external accounting audits and are unrelated to ISO.
Reductions in costs can be seen in the lower workload devoted to moving papers and in the agile publication of new documents and reviews. In our case it allowed us to relieve one person of administrative tasks and to simplify the work of others who had to spend time following up papers and actions that can easily be lost.
The main objectives achieved within the ISO 9000 management system with the assistance of Loyal software include, at first glance, the “management of documents”, since we no longer have to take printed forms, reviews and updates from one office to another to have them signed or to be acknowledged. Instead they travel via email, thus keeping documents updated on-line
Going a little deeper, the management of corrective and preventive actions is more effective since it obliges those involved to answer, thus avoiding having to notify them personally; it is the software that alerts the responsible person, transferring the responsibility to the sector or person that should carry out the proposed action.
Finally, another advantage is the graphic module’s simple command panel from which indicators as to the effectiveness of the corrective and preventive actions can be obtained, as well as information as to whether auditors are carrying out the necessary audits to maintain their qualification. This has been used by management for reviews, greatly simplifying the information presented.
